Topic 4

Research on Effective Application of GHG and Related Atmospheric Substance Monitoring Data to Environmental Measures and Policies

This topic plays the role of connecting the results of this project to policy. No matter how high-precision observations and model analyses are performed, they cannot lead to policy unless presented in an easy-to-understand form to societal stakeholders, which has been a weakness of many scientific projects. In S-22, bridging science and society will be carried out by the research group specializing in social science at the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES). Sub-theme (1) analyzes global climate policy trends and proposes strategies for utilizing atmospheric monitoring data from this project in environmental policies such as the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Sub-theme (2) supports policy formulation by providing information from this project to domestic stakeholders (such as policy makers).
